Miracle in Brooklyn
A couple in our Tuesday night Order of St. Luke (OSL) Bible study, Robert and Eleanor Estes (who are Episcopalians), gave this report recently.
Their son, Steven, has recently become a truck driver for Central Freight and his route took him to Brooklyn, NY on Friday. He had been given wrong directions for his delivery and suddenly found himself trapped in traffic, at night, flanked on all sides with honking cars and a bridge in front of him with a clearance too low for him to drive under. People from all sides began shouting obscenities in their various languages.
In desperation, Steven called his wife in Lufkin, TX to tell her his predicament and ask her to PRAY! She did and just as she said, "Amen," a man stepped up to his cab, asking, "Can I help you?" The man was wearing a priestly collar. Steven asked, "Are you a Catholic or an Episcopal priest?" The man said, "I’m Episcopalian AND I was formerly a truck driver. I can help you get out of this jam! I am familiar with this area." Steven showed him the address of his destination. The priest knew exactly how to get there. It would be about 7 blocks over.
Steven had noticed a small car parked to his side, making his move impossible. He told the priest and when they looked over, the car was NOT THERE! The priest said, "You can drive under the bridge, even though the marker indicates otherwise. TRUST ME, I’ve driven under this bridge many times."
The priest then stepped down onto the street and began directing traffic, so Steven could move. The crowd continued to yell and shake their fists at him, as well.
The priest then climbed into the cab and rode with Steven giving him directions at every turn for approximately 7 blocks. Then he prayed with Steven and stepped out, assuring him that he was OK now. Steven didn’t see where the man went any more than he had seen where he’d come from.
Steven had been without work for a number of weeks prior to this. This job was a stretch to accept as it would take him away from his family for almost a month at a time. Through this ordeal, the Lord assured the couple that it was His will. Now, the entire family has a new confidence that God is, indeed, with them and blessing this career direction.
